Back in the 70's and 80's it was common to cut the spring with a torch. You could keep the rest of the spring "cool" by cutting it while the spring was in a bucket of water.
I normally use a grinder with a thin cut-off wheel.
Make sure and cut the bottom of the spring.
Break the lower a-arm loose at the ball joint and remove the spring carefully.
The shock and sway bar will have to be disconnected from the a-arm also.
Some people run a chain thru the spring to keep it from flying out. Some use a spring compressor. I'm just careful.
Definitely get an alignment when you are done cutting.
