You pretty much got it all right there. The 32 spline transmissions are slightly longer than the 27 spline. I would say put the new yoke on your present shaft and try to install it. As long as you have at least 3/4" before bottoming out the yoke (at ride height) you should be ok. If anything less than that, you need to get the driveshaft shortened.
If you can't find a truck-specific shifter, Hurst makes one for 55-57 Chev cars that will clear the truck bench quite nicely.
