Re: Breather/oil-fill tube in later-style intake
I did this on my Model A that runs a '70 Chevy 350 SBC and old aluminum "corvette" valve covers. I had an Eldebrock RPM intake machined to use the old intake style filler tube and then put a breather on it. The RPM intake had the boss there, just needed the hole machine for it.
I found out the hard way that the crankcase needed more room to breathe. On a new engine that isn't broken in, or on an old engine that has a lot of blow by thi will be an even bigger problem. In my case, with a newly rebuilt engine, I blew out the manual Holley gas pump gaskets and spewed oil all over the headers, thought I had blown up the engine! Luckily I rebuilt the fuel pump and all was good.
I changed the oil filler neck to the type that is used on a '66-67 vette, it is equipped with a PCV Valve fitting. I also added a Moon breather in drivers side "vette" valve cover.
It has worked fine since these modifications.
I hope this helps.
