I don't know if this applys but the nozzles at most of the stations in nc have a spring coiled around them I wedge the top of the nozzle and the bottom of the spring in the filler hole putting only an inch or two into the truck with he nozzle going into the truck parallel to the ground and I can lock it down and walk away but if I shove the nozzle in it all the way it does why you describe
