some of those trucks had a ball in them, to prevent gas from coming out if the vehicle if it rolled, take the hose off the filler neck underneath and take the ball out, then you shouldnt have any problems. but also check the vent tube. my 78 had the same exact issue, I took the ball out of the filler tube and never had the problem again. shouldnt take but about 15-20mins.
