Someone correct me if I'm wrong but your M20 has a smaller flange in the front while your 71 bellhousing is setup for a large bore trans. This change happened sometime around 68. I remember something about this since years ago when I did the M20 swap, I remember wanting only a 67 bellhousing. Anything newer and I would have had to use an adaptor ring between the bellhousing bore and the flange on the trans. Make sense?
