I would be inclined to pull the under dash harness and gauge cluster out of the 87 as there are a few things connected to the ECM that the 86 does not have.
This will make your life much easier as it will all just bolt in with no modifications needed.
Does the 87 have dual fuel tanks? What about the 86? The dual tank EFI fuel line & switching valve system is a little awkward to remove but it can be done with the bed off.
You should pull the fuel tanks out of the 87 too as they have pans in the bottom to keep the fuel pump pickup submerged that the 86 tanks do not have.
