I think the truth to the matter here is - how much work are you willing to do?
A person with a welder can do almost anything that they want to - as long as they know how to weld and machine.

The answer probably is - because the SWB frame is too short. The distance between the front wheels and the rear wheels is longer and the truck arms might be mounted different if it has coil spring suspension and the overhang past the rear end might be longer - because the quarter panel is longer on the suburban / panel truck.

The long wheel base uses a carrier bearing on the driveshaft and the short wheel base uses a one piece drive shaft and the loop for the carrier bearing is not installed on the short wheel base frame.

Take your pick of answers.
