I agree with Ken, check your state laws. In Colorado you only have to go back 2 years worth, so it definitely varies by state.
What kind of areas are you going to pick stuff up? Will a dually fit and/or maneuver around where you go? Just thinking out loud.
If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be focusing so much on a specific year/make/model, but rather looking for the truck that fits YOUR NEEDS and BUDGET, regardless of who made it and when.
