^ The chalk method is a good start, but only for straight-line driving. If you do a fair amount of cornering, you'll need more pressure to avoid excessive wear on the outer edges, especially on the fronts. That's why I use a tread depth gauge -- it will find differences that are too small to otherwise notice.
