The times I really think twice about this is with the 90's engines. The sonsab!tches at GM decided we needed pinch nuts on the studs that bolt the engine and tranny together, and while we're at it, we'll do it to all 6, those are some of the worst cramped positions and S L O W, regardless of how you wrench it.
I just find it a lot easier when those are stock type bolts to unbolt everything, it lets me keep my tranny fluid where it belongs and I get to lift the engine straight up and out. I understand there are tools that allow you to grab the flexplate and turn it a good bit at at time, but I do my penance for the job by using my big screwdriver.
