I have not tried a box but I have lifted a bunch of things heavier with one. The thing to be careful about is having it extended to far out. I had a small block on the hook with the arm and the legs all the way out and it bent the legs on the picker. That is the only time I had any problems and I have hoisted a bunch of engines.
