The bed rail orientation is interesting to me. I know yours are installed “correctly”, having seen the posting of the original instruction sheet. But I’ve never seen another set installed with the stanchions slanting to the rear, and bed rails were fairly popular in my youth. I think most people may have installed them leaning forward since this was commonly depicted in ads of the period, or perhaps because boats were generally set up with the rails leaning toward the bow.
I think it’s a lot like the front bumper guards. The GM instruction sheet shows they were designed to be installed 3” outboard of the bumper bolts, but almost everybody mounts them directly over the factory bumper bolt holes.
To me they look more balanced where GM intended them to be mounted, but many owners probably never saw the instructions, and have been bolting them on “incorrectly” since these trucks were new.

I wonder if that passenger side spare might have been an export option. I read an earlier thread somewhere about a guy looking for those parts, and somebody else responded with information for him.
