you "think" that it is to small. either it is to small or it isn't. . if they were the same type of rear axle, you could have just changed the yoke, you don't have to change the pinion.
there are conversion joints avail from your auto parts dealer.. if you know the prpoer 72 application they should be able to look it up and tell you what it is and give you the size and then match it to what you have
