If you plan to use the welder to weld sheet metal, get one with a gas regulator. The welds are much cleaner and will require less clean up. Flux core splatters too much.
I have a Miller Millermatic 175. It will weld 1/4" steel with a single pass and full penetration. It'll also dial down to do sheet metal with no problem. It's all I should ever need to work on vehicles.
Get one that's too small or that won't do what you want it to and you'll not be happy with it.
