Re: Help my uncle id his truck and motor
vin#4c144161xxxx = 4=1964 / C=2 wheel drive / 14= half ton 115" wheelbase / 4=pickup (after the last "4" there should be a letter which will ID the assembly plant location in the U.S. - a "1" (your case) indicates Oshawa, Canada assembly plant - then 61XXXX etc would be the sequential assembly number.
(so, good news, you know you have an original 1/2 ton shortbed - you now know it hasn't been a cab swap victim - not that there's anything wrong with that, just nice to know on one's own truck if it's ever happened) - you can also cross match the truck VIN tag with the VIN stamped into the front left frame rail - can usually make it out by leaning over the left front fender and looking down at the top of the frame rail near the steering box area, etc. You also know it was originally a Canadian plant built truck.
Truck 327 not available in 64 - first year in trucks was 66.
But you do have a 327 - and appears you have a very SWEET one...
Engine ID# F0526 SD = F=Flint (motor plant) / built on May 26 / SD=1962 vette 327 (originally equipped with a powerglide, special hi perf engine - 350hp, 4 bbl carb).
Hope that helps. Wish I could buy a truck and then find out that's what was in it! Nice truck - 64 short step with a big window and a 62 vette 327... I'd hang onto that puppy...
