If a person has access to spray equipment, it can sometimes be done even cheaper than rattle cans. Rustoleum (or other brand air dry enamel) typically runs about $30-$40 a gallon depending on where you live. It took about 5 quarts of paint plus a gallon of thinner to to spray everything on my truck except the inside of the bed. I could have got by with 1 gallon of paint, but I spilled an entire quart of paint and had to reshoot the mess I made.
By comparison, the cost of automotive paint materials can easily run into hundreds of dollars a gallon, plus the cost of hardeners and other compatible chemicals.
