Silver solder melts at 300F degress 96% tin, 4% silver , sliver braze which most people think of as sliver solder or hard solder melts at 800 or so and is almost 50% silver.
I used to fix pewter and white metal jewelery with it back when I was a bench jeweler. I would clean the joint up flux it and wire it together with iron wire ( mechaincs wire) not copper wire, set it into a sand filled box for support and put it in and oven for 45 minutes or so at 350 degrees. The solder will flow into the joint. I don't see why it won't work on a hood ornament.
