The brown wire is for your brake proportioner. For my electric choke I hooked it up to my old points distibutor wire. This is assuming that you are converted to HEI. It is hooked up through the ignition switch and is a hot wire. Hope this helps. Just look at the wiring diagrams and all of your questions will be answered.
