Square body 4x4 transmission troubles
I am trying to help a friend figure this out from 200 miles away and with no pictures. I know nothing about 4x4's.
1984 4x4...when he got it it had a TB350 with NP208. They replaced it with a 700R4 for the overdrive and didnt keep up with all the old 350 stuff. The 700R4 died a few months later (TV cable issues probably) and they scrounged around to find all the 350 stuff to put it back to original. It is now at a shop and the "mechanic" is saying there are some parts missing and that the TB350 is now too short?!?!?!
All I can think of is the transmission cross member was moved and needs to be moved back. I have also been told they did not change the drive shaft when they went from the 350 to the 700...is this true with a 4x4???
I thought the lengths of the 2 transmissions were different along with the yokes being different so a different drive shaft would have to be used?!?!?! Or is that just 2x4's?
I have no idea what they are talking about.....any thoughts?
Any good pictures of a TB350 with the 208 strapped to it?
