The side glass is actually a lot easier than the windshield, because you're not dealing with the sharp corners and it's almost flat. If you have a hook tool (also called a cotter pin puller - like a screwdriver handle with a hook on the end) you can just start near one of the corners and put pressure on the glass from the inside while you gently work the rubber out. A little glass cleaner on the rubber can help lubricate it.
You can also use a rope, but if you plan to reuse the rubber be really careful, because sometimes the rope will tear the rubber.
