Re: Double wall to Single wall conversion

I converted mine over. I was lucky enough to find a donor 72 with totally trashed bedsides so I removed the capture nuts and cages they slide around in from under the bed rails. I then grabbed a couple buddies and placed the single wall onto the blazer, securing the front windshield. I then made sure the top was squarely on the bedsides and from the top rail of the top, marked where the holes needed to be in the bedside. Then we removed the top. The stock bedsides have oblong holes so I tried to reproduce that by starting with a round hole and using a die grinder worked in both directions to elongate the holes (not fun). After that, the issue I ran into was getting in under the bed rails to weld in the cages for capture nuts. Then I had an idea. The cages have flat tabs on each side were the original spot welds were and so I tried JB Weld instead of welding. I plopped the capture nut into the cage and applied the JB and walla, it worked great! The top secures firmly even cranking down on the bolts from above. Does it look factory? No but I had the same problem as you did and with a little work it turned out fine.
