So what brands and models do you prefer?

sub or amp
subs jl audio
amps jl audio or rockfordfosgate
there are others, but this take a beating
I'd stay with you amp for now, build a box (ported) the bigger the air space the lower the bass goes, if you like double bass drums, then 2 subs and a 2 channel amp.
if it doesn't matter, then a mono amp or a 2 channel in bridged mode.
good subs are not cheap.. but what you want you can get a pioneer/etc and it'll do..
I run jl's in a sealed box with a 1000w jl mono block.. thats real 1000w clean into a 4 ohm load. it's overkill..
my rockford 500 w 2 channel was more than enough.
in a truck the cab is small you don't need much. so that sony might be ok..
but running it as a sub amp it might overheat and shut down ,(to save it self)
subs use a lot of current.. good luck..
once you hear a sealed box, you'll never want a ported one again.. only down side is a seal box needs almost twice the power to be as loud as the ported one..
but it's so tight and not muddy
