Re: 2000 Silverado Questions
13-14mpg average if you drive mostly city/country roads. 18mpg for a 100% highway trip.
Take it on a drive and get it up to highway speeds. Check the panels and trim for gaps and uniformity. If that looks OK to you, then the highway trip will "shake out" if the wreck has caused any vibrations in the truck. My 00 Z71 with almost 130K on it has ZERO vibrations or shimmies at any speed. If you let go of the wheel there is no shake or movement. This truck should be the same IMO if I were to buy it.
The 5.3 will make a "knocking" sound when it starts for about 15-30 seconds on cold days on cold starts. It's normal and if you wish to research it, search for "silverado piston slap".
Hope that helps. I love my truck. I wish it was back at 54K so I could keep it a really long time. I've owned it for 6 years and the only "non maintenance" thing I've done so far is replace the fuel pump at 127K about a month ago and I also had to replace the 4wd dash switch (only $45 and took 10 minutes.) Fuel pump was a pain in the ass but wasn't too bad. I replaced the Bilstein shocks, plugs, and wires at around 100K.
