Is it an impact driver or impact wrench? The impact driver is built to do just as it sounds, drive things. We use our impact driver when building things, working on remodels, and the like. It is great for driving long screws as the impact action slows the speed down at the end so you can sink the screw exactly as you desire. I also like it a lot for tapcons, with a standard driver I break a good 30% of them but I rarely break a tapcon with my impact driver.
I have never used mine as an impact wrench, the speed may be a bit fast for that, but if it works for that job too, why not?
