ABSOLUTEY all the old gasket is off the block first (a good scraper and then sandpaper or a gasket removal pad

if even a small peice remains it will let the pump sit off enough to allow a path for leaking to occur. I may not change them everyday but I've sod enough and seen this before to know a common solution. And yes even the professional rush tgrough the simple job and have this issue sometimes.
