Maybe people are taiking at cross purposes? Correct me if I am worng (Someone always does). If you have a mechanical gauge then there is a line that runs from the fitting on the engine to the back of the gauge. If you have an electrical gauge or an idiot light then there is either a switch (idiot light) or a pressure sensor (transducer) that generates the signal to drive the electrical gauge.
