Thanks for all the advice, I finally got it on! The box was the correct one. I finally ended up just wedging the end of the pitman arm open with a thin cold chisel in the gap where the crossbolt cinches it together. Then I had my wife to get in the truck and barely move the steering wheel while i pushed/tapped the arm up onto the shaft. The splines were already started before i had her move the wheel side to side, it was just in a bind and didn't want to slide on.
