I used a dye instead of paint because dye seems to bond better to plastic. As far as my speakers, I upgraded them, but used the speaker cover that came with the headliner. I recommend changing the speakers because they're only 10 watts and they sound great at low-mid volume. But if your stereo system is pushing big watts and you enjoy listening to your music above mid volume, you're going to blow them the first time you crank up volume. The smart thing to do is base your speaker choice on your stereo watts per channel and the volume level you prefer to avoid having to drop the headliner and replace the speakers.
