Air pump removal?

I'm replacing my drive belts and was thinking about just leaving off the air pump belt for now and maybe removing the pump later. The question is that I have TBI, so will removing the belt for the air pump hurt the engine or performance? I'm not really worried about emissions right now. Will it hurrt cold start-ups? Anyone doen this on an 87 TBI and not have any computer problems? Thanks!

Also. I took the top part of the fan shroud off. It was held together ( to the bottam half of the shroud) by a couple of big staples. They look factory, but I was wondering if you guys have a better way to attach them together.
