if you try bending it away you have to worry about the tube breaking off from the case the best thing is to go to an auto parts store and try to get a pump that has the tube in a different position i had a similar problem a few years ago and my local car-quest had a book that had actual diagrams of the pump with inlet and outlets illistrated for the same pump there were about 6-10 different configurations of the inlet/outlet tubes
