Tim, you pose a good question. I can only make an assumption on this... the Custom Camper 3500 badge you describe is probly for the option package, I have seen many GMC fender badges that have the trim level/option package written in the red block piece.
However, i can not confirm that in any way shape or form, it is just an assumption
