Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
A quick thought on body mounts: I have seen some discussion about using the new truck floor pan and thus being able to leave the frame mounts. What a complete pain in the rear. It was so easy to cut off the mounts on the new frame and make 4 new ones, I'll have about 2 feet of total welding to attach them, and it's so easy to weld thick material. The alternative solution of using the new truck cab floor involves so much work: cutting both floors out, figuring out how to mate them back together (they don't exactly line up!), making sheet metal filler parts to cover the gaps where they don't meet, over 28 feet of welding - sheet metal!, making sure all of your welds are complete and water tight, seam sealing the 28 feet of welds because you know they aren't water tight, and on and on. A COMPLETE AND UTTER NIGHTMARE with no real benefits.
Front body mount hole - done
Mid and rear body mounts - cut, ready to weld
Remaining bed mounts and braces - all cut and ready to weld
Underside of bed sectioned and channeled
Still have to: Finish grinding down old mounts, build rad. support mounts, weld rest of brackets on, prep for paint, build carrier bearing mount. No problem!
