as long as the metering moves up and down without binding then the spring is OK.. My truck is popping out the exhaust and it has a header pipe that is not as hot as the others , so i am going to do a compression check.. if it is OK then a tuneup and hope for the best.. I think the prior owner may have installed a cam and could have adjusted the rockers too tight... one more thing to check... new trucks are fun ...
