it not changing doesn't really matter if what took the carrier bearing out in the first place was a ballance issue. If the bearing itself is what failed marking the parts and putting the shaft back together properly will probably work just fine.
don't trust a mechanic to be able to figure this out. I fix alot of mechanics driveline mistakes.

we usually weld up the ends of the carrier bearings and put a couple of braces from the base to the round part of the housing.
