Re: looking to swap a 6.2L
I keep remembering the small things as the day goes on. More things you'll need:
- Hydro-boost power brake set up including hydraulic lines, brake booster, and master cylinder (diesels don't create any vacuum, so the power brakes are hydraulic and run off the power steering pump)
- Steering box (unless you're comfortable cutting the hydraulic lines and "splicing" in a new end to screw into your stock steering box, because the 1-ton's are bigger boxes and need bigger fittings)
The hydro-boost is an extremely easy swap. Unbolt all your vacuum stuff, and put the hydraulic stuff in it's place. It's really that easy. No mods at all.
The steering box was a bit more tricky for me, but I made it work and haven't had a problem at all. I took my old 1/2 ton power steering hose, cut off the end that screws into my 1/2 ton steering box, and cut the same end off the line from the hydro-boost line. I used a compression fitting to mate them together so the smaller fitting was on the hydraulic line to fit into my steering box, and it worked out fine.
