Oldyeller, the temp sending units i have used actually have smaller threads than the fittings, so there is no way to get them tight. The instruction manuals for the guages also reccomendd using teflon sealent of some kind.
BTW, those have both been on mechanical guages. With a electrical guage, it may be different.
