Just moved to California and what a hassle to register my truck. The damn vehicle inspector guy noticed that I had replaced the rivets with non factory ones. I did this when I painted the cab. Now I have to go see the Cali. Highway Patrol so they can say the numbers really do match.

Uhm, and why is this state in budgetary meltdown? I know this is a minor example but how many layers of stupidity and red tape have they built into a system that obviously does not work? I realize the spirit of most laws is to protect honest folks, but geez. I feel for you guys. And where is the protection if you can purchase the "correct" vin rivets anyway?
NH's state motto is "Live Free Or Die". The VIN tag has to match the bill-of-sale (titles are not required, nobody gives a rats-a$$ about VIN rivets or matching to frame stamped VIN). How tough is that?
