I did the same thing a couple years ago tomy Suburban using the blue led light strips only and no back lighting. Got them straight from the manufacturer

And by using a couple of these adaptors from v-leds I was able to just plug them into the factory light socket in the back of the cluster housing without splicing into any wiring.
