The whole point is that there is no "status" among them. It's all about simple community life.
Car ownership is forbidden
Maybe someone outside the community owned it? a "hire car", but that wouldn't explain the manual transmission though?
As far as "stripping off" components, I didn't mean litterally. It would have been a "down-grade" to put a three speed manual into a Cadillac where the "standard" transmission would have been an automatic. I'm thinking that some special exception would have to be made to get a manual transmission in a Cadillac? Especially in the big tanks of the 60s-70s-80s. The newer, smaller and even transverse mounted front wheel drive models may be an execption?
It would be similar to a "radio delete", "heater delete" etc....it was never there to be taken out, but it would have to be specified like any other option.
