He's got a TH350... not a 700r4. That thing will survive forever without the kickdown cable attached. Nothing to be concerned about. I had one behind my 6.2 diesel before I swapped it out for the 700r4, and I drove it for over 2000 miles without the kickdown attached.

Anyway, if you do get a chance to snap a picture of what your cable looks like, someone should be able to figure out how to adjust it.
