^^^I have heard that as well, and also the fact that in the areas where rust is a problem, the wood bed floors lasted longer, and if it ever started coming apart, then you could simply replace the planks.

Could you imagine having a 1000lbs+ animal standing in a steel bed and going around a corner? You had better hang on, because when that animal loses it's footing, you're going to be changing lanes real fast.
