I've been reading quite a bit about the 200-4R lately.......I've been thinking about this swap myself.
Some of these trannys had to be good to stand up behind the turbo Buick motors......I just haven't figured out which ones are good and which ones to stay away from.....or if there's any difference.
The link above lists all the trans tag codes. The ones in bold print are the ones that were put in "performance cars" (if you can call a Monte Carlo SS with a 305, a
performance car). Whether or not there was anything "special" about these transmissions, I don't know.
I've read where a stock 200-4R ran with no problems behind 500+ horsepower but then there are those that go south, with very little wear, behind a stock V-6. There doesn't seem to be much consistency in the quality of the parts.
