I see that your Suburban has the 3 speed TH400 transmission. One of the best things you could do to increase mileage would be to install a 700R4 overdrive transmission. Not only does the extra gear bring down your RPM's but the lock up torque converter gets rid of a lot slippage which translates to friction and extra fuel burned. Or even better would be to install a NV4500 5 speed manual transmission.
The next thing to get better gas mileage would be to install tall and narrow tires such as 215/85/16 tires. I'm going to do this once my oversize tires wear out.
