A 3.08 rear would put you at about 1400 RPM +/-100 at 70 MPH. I don't like the fact that the engine has sat around for 2 years, but if it looks 'clean' it's probably okay. (clean as in clean oil, trans fluid not burnt and clear, etc..) 97s used OBD2 diagonistics, so try to fine a code scanner and see if the PCM threw any codes. You will have to hook up a battery to do that. If you have the key, turn the ignition to 'run' to turn on the odometer (if its digital like mine). Any front end damage should be looked at closely, as it could have pushed the radiator back into the engine, MAF, throttle body, etc.. $1600 sounds like a great price for the entire car. I wish I could find a deal like that. I would love to stroke a LT-1 for my T/A. There's just no replacement for displacement.
