Myself, I would get the whole rear form a 71/72 or buy new shorter axles setup with 5-lug. I believe Early Classic sells them, but who else slips my brain at the moment.
We ended up re-machining the axle, installing 5 lugs, and moving forward. I've been driving it since then, just drove 500 miles for my Army weekend, and the thing runs like a champ. Getting 13.5-16 mpg, with 14.5 being average.

Next I'm looking at blasting the bed, putting in a line-x treatment, undercoating with Line-x and painting. Oh, and window rubber. Then maybe a radio.
