hello 1972 redneck, i had the same problem as you, bought one from LMC, same problem. After the guys and i looked at it for a few hours we found out what the play in the steering wheel shaft was. when i switched out to a 1990's s-10 steering wheel i also used a 1994 cancellation cam as well. our 67-72 cacellation cams are bevelled on the bottom and the 94's cam is flstraight flushed at the bottom. put my old cam on and no play. it is amazing how something so small can make you crazy....Russ
