Yes, possibly just a panel truck - or could have been a flatbed - used to haul coffins/sofas around.
Not sure about the ambulance I pictured above - the cab might be a different structure? no idea

If it were a flatbed, the wood probably rotted away a long time ago and someone just stripped it bare. (guess)
