You said it was by the speedo cable. It could be the bullet leaking. The bullet is the thing that the cable screws onto. There is a seal in it for the speedo gear. They leak pretty often.

Repair is way simple, the bullet is held in the trans by one bolt. But the secret is, replace the bullet with a steel one. Lots of the TH350 had aluminum bullets which wear pretty badly. Go to a good trans shop or GM dealer and get a steel bullet. Should cost less than $10. Fix is less than 5 minutes, including washing your hands afterward.
