No, I don't think they look similar. I think they are ugly as hell. I thought the style that came out in '98 looked ok (if a little bland). I liked the scruntched up face of the 2003 refresh too.
Sometimes I think about the car makers coming out with a car that looks EXACTLY like the original except new...like a '57 chevy, or a '69 camaro, but not stuff like the modern charger and mondern camaro that look sort of like the originals, but not exactly.
The truck industry makes "glider kits" where everything is new except the frame rails...that way they can essentially sell you a new truck, that meets older year emissions standards..I'd love to be able to take my '78 frame rails, and put all new sheet metal, engine, etc on it, for say...10k
